{"id":181,"date":"2016-01-10T20:23:38","date_gmt":"2016-01-10T20:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/c5932385.myzen.co.uk\/sylv\/?page_id=181"},"modified":"2024-10-08T05:38:16","modified_gmt":"2024-10-08T05:38:16","slug":"youth-training-courses","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/rdsc.org.uk\/?page_id=181","title":{"rendered":"Youth Training Courses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Below is a summary of each level of the courses.<\/p>\n<p>Youth training is broken down into 4 stages:<\/p>\n<p><strong>STAGE 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A basic understanding of. how a boat sailing, with some experience of steering and handling the boat<\/p>\n<p>Assumed knowledge &#8211; None.<\/p>\n<p>Course content &#8211; Launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing.<\/p>\n<p>Ability after course &#8211; Able to steer and understand basic principles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STAGE 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A range of sailing skills and knowledge to help in becoming a confident sailor.<\/p>\n<p>Assumed knowledge &#8211; Stage 1. Basic knowledge and steering ability.<\/p>\n<p>Course content &#8211; Basic sailing skills, ropework and collision avoidance.<\/p>\n<p>Ability after course &#8211; Able to tack and control boat speed, and understand basic principles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STAGE 3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rigging, launching and sailing in any direction. Equivalent to Level 2 in the National Sailing Scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Assumed knowledge &#8211; Up to and including the Stage 2 course.<\/p>\n<p>Course content &#8211; Rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery, sailing theory.<\/p>\n<p>Ability after course -Able to launch and sail a dinghy around a triangle course in moderate conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STAGE 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sail a double handed boat as crew or helm, and solve a variety of problems afloat. (optional if Stage 3 was taken in a double hander).<\/p>\n<p>Assumed knowledge &#8211; Up to and including Stage 3 course,<\/p>\n<p>Course content &#8211; Rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques and manoeuvres in crewed boats, recovering a man overboard.<\/p>\n<p>Ability after course &#8211; Can launch and return to a beach, jetty or mooring, and sail a crewed dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Youth courses are for aged 8+ and run over 2 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Below is a summary of each level of the courses.
