Below is a summary of each level of the courses.<\/p>\n
Youth training is broken down into 4 stages:<\/p>\n
STAGE 1<\/strong><\/p>\n A basic understanding of. how a boat sailing, with some experience of steering and handling the boat<\/p>\n Assumed knowledge – None.<\/p>\n Course content – Launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing.<\/p>\n Ability after course – Able to steer and understand basic principles.<\/p>\n STAGE 2<\/strong><\/p>\n A range of sailing skills and knowledge to help in becoming a confident sailor.<\/p>\n Assumed knowledge – Stage 1. Basic knowledge and steering ability.<\/p>\n Course content – Basic sailing skills, ropework and collision avoidance.<\/p>\n Ability after course – Able to tack and control boat speed, and understand basic principles.<\/p>\n STAGE 3<\/strong><\/p>\n Rigging, launching and sailing in any direction. Equivalent to Level 2 in the National Sailing Scheme.<\/p>\n Assumed knowledge – Up to and including the Stage 2 course.<\/p>\n Course content – Rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery, sailing theory.<\/p>\n Ability after course -Able to launch and sail a dinghy around a triangle course in moderate conditions.<\/p>\n STAGE 4<\/strong><\/p>\n Sail a double handed boat as crew or helm, and solve a variety of problems afloat. (optional if Stage 3 was taken in a double hander).<\/p>\n Assumed knowledge – Up to and including Stage 3 course,<\/p>\n Course content – Rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques and manoeuvres in crewed boats, recovering a man overboard.<\/p>\n Ability after course – Can launch and return to a beach, jetty or mooring, and sail a crewed dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions.<\/p>\n Youth courses are for aged 8+ and run over 2 days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Below is a summary of each level of the courses.
